Printing South China/Sino-Pack Predict Economic Recovery
Opportunities Ahead for Printing and Packaging Industries

The premier events in the printing and packaging industries, Printing South China, Sino-Pack, Sino-Label and China Drinktec, which ran from March 9 – 11, 2010, ended fruitfully in Guangzhou, PR China. More than 1000 renowned local and overseas exhibitors assembled in four theme halls for these events that featured the latest equipment as well as comprehensive emerging technologies and solutions for the printing, packaging, labeling and beverage industries. The show garnered international attention, attracting more than 45,000 professional visitors, and received tremendous support from 60 printing and packaging industry associations in numerous countries/regions, including Korea, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, and Hebei of China.

Hundreds of world renowned enterprises from the industry gathered at Printing South China and Sino-Label 2010, including SPPMC, HP, Founder, Cron, Jadason, DURST, OKI, Hans-Gronhz, Weihai Hamada, MBO, Zhejiang Zhenggrun, Basch, Taiyo, Lintec (Suzhou), Labelmen, Lintec (Tianjin), Avery Dennison, UPM, ETI, Brotech, Haotian, Wutung, ZhongTian, Xin Hao Adhesive, Colamark, LECCO, Kurz, Dupont, Mitsa, Moma, BST, Polyart, and others.

As the largest one-stop packaging exhibition in China, the Sino-Pack/China Drinktec 2010 indicated strong advancements in the industry, despite worldwide economic turmoil, by renowned exhibitors, including: Ningbo Haitian, Guangdong Simcheng, Hangzhou Youngsun, Joyea, Shanghai Precise, Nanjing Grandpak, Shanghai Macwell Beijing Macwell, Guangdong Yuedong, E-Star, Shanghai Ishida, Mettler-Toledo, Guangzhou Dacheng, Huangyan Yusheng, Ningbo Well Lih, Jia-In, AOMI, Costar, Domino, Videojet, Markem-Imaje, Hitachi, Siti, Nordson, Zippak, MWV, Evergreen, Demag, and Pavilions from the USA, Korea and China Plastics Processing Industry Association.

At the fairground, various exhibitors even expressed significant growth in visitors this year, perhaps foreshadowing economic recovery for the sector.

Of the event, Shanghai Purlux Machinery Co., Ltd / SPPMC General Manager Mr. Cai Zhi-yong said, “Printing South China is a phenomenal exhibition for the printing industry in South China and an event that we have been participating in for over a decade. This time, we met a lot of new friends and achieved a very good result.”

Mr. Zhao Ming from the Marketing Department of Ningbo Haitian stated, “We participate in Sino-Pack because it is the largest packaging exhibition in China. This year, we wanted to introduce our specialized packaging machines to the world.”

Also speaking about the events, Chief Representative of the Processing and Packaging Machinery Association (PPMA) Mr. Chan said, “As one of the most influential packaging events in the world, Sino-Pack attracts more and more buyers every year. We are excited about the results and expect to organize more enterprises from England to participate next year.”

Market Director of P & L Technology Co., Ltd Mr. Victor Ye, said, “The quality of the visitors at these events is getting much better every year, which is closer and closer to exhibitor expectations. In fact, this year alone, six out of eight prospects confirmed their intent to buy our machines. We estimate that we will sell approximately 18 millions as a result.”

Concurrent Activities Enrich Buyers with Green Technologies
Green packaging is one of the major missions of the events. Organized by Guangdong Packaging Technology Association, Guangdong Packaging Technology Association Design Committee, Guangdong Packaging Technology Association Printing Committee and Adsale Exhibition Service Ltd, an “Adsale Cup – Green Packaging Competition” was successfully held, garnering generous support from the industry. The award presentation ceremony was held on the first day of the show, with prizes awarded for: “Best Green Package,” “Best Renewable Resources Package,” “Best Green Design Package,” etc. Gold prizes were awarded to GD Creativity Advertising Company, Guangzhou Nanya Pulp Mold Equipment Limited Company and Foshan City Yue Hui Zhi Pin Technology Company Ltd.

In addition to the Adsale event, a “Premium Printing and Packaging Experience Zone” was set up at the show for the first time ever. This unique zone showcased diverse exhibits; from paper products to plastic, metal, glass and ceramic products, such as bottle packaging, wine cap, handicrafts and wood packaging, leather products, shell packaging and other new packaging materials and techniques. The collective debut of such cutting-edge package designs from 100 high-end packaging companies attracted hundreds of visitors to the show, including manufacturers, designers and advertising companies.

Jointly held with Keyin Media, a “Digital Printing Forum – Continuous Development with New Value” was held alongside the Pre-press and Digital Printing theme zone. This unique forum attracted 200 representatives from the digital printing industry as well as traditional printing enterprises alongside printing machinery suppliers to explore new values and applications.

Mr. Yang Guang-rui, President of the Administration of Press and Publication of Guangdong Province expressed his tremendous support for the “Digital Printing Forum” in his speech. In addition, the digital printing industry’s foremost professionals, enterprises and suppliers were invited to the forum to explore their insights into the operation of digital printing enterprises as well as their strategies for traditional printing. During this event, the topic entitled “Trend and Development of the Digital Printing Industry” was brought by Mr. Chan-yan, President of the China Academy of Printing Technology and Permanent Secretary for Digital Printing Committee of The Printing Technology Association of China, which led an in-depth discussion on local and overseas trends in digital printing technology as well as discussion of its recent market developments.

Other sections included “Evolution” by Indigo, HP Inkjet Commercial Division, “Digital Printing is Service Industry” by Tianjin Vividus Digital Printing, and “Effect of Digital Printing on Development of Digitalization” by Digital Printing Product Division of Beijing Founder, etc.

Another 20 onsite symposiums and seminars were offered during the show, with exciting topics that catered to the needs of printing and label professionals as well as manufacturers from the food, beer, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics industries. For example, other seminars included: “The Second Label Industry and Digital Technology Forum” organized by Printing & Printing Equipment Industries Association of China; “The Globalization and Opportunities of Pressure-Sensitive Adhesive--Inside Asia” by UPM; “A Better Application of Ink-Jet Digital Printing Technologies in the Label Industry” by Beijing Founder; and “The Latest Applications of Stream in the Label Industry” presented by KODAK.

Further, during the symposium, the Guangdong Preventive Medicine Association Committee on Food Hygiene introduced various symposiums on: "Food Safety, Risk Management and Application of Standardized Technology," "Safety Assessment and Application of Identification Technology in Packaging for Daily Chemical Products" and "New Technologies for Pharmaceutical and Packaging Standardization."

Well-Attended by 60+ Trade Associations
This year, the number of visitors was boosted by an attendance of 60 delegation groups led by trade associations from different countries/regions. These included printing and packaging industry associations from different cities and provinces in China, such as the Guangdong Packaging Technology Association, Shenzhen Packaging Industry Association, Shenzhen Anti-Counterfeit Association, Guangxi Beihai Printing Industry Association, Rotogravure Division of The Printing Technology Association of China, Fujian Provincial Packaging Decorating Printing Association, Dongguan Food Industry Association, Guangdong Provincial Alcohol Industry Association Beer Branch, Guangdong Logistics Profession Association﹐Guangzhou Chain Store & Franchise Association, and the Guangdong Dairy Industry Association, etc.

The show’s success was further elaborated in the positive feedback from the trade associations in attendance. For example, Mr. Wei, Permanent Secretary of Hebei Xiong Plastic Paper Packaging & Printing Association indicated that while it was his first time visiting Sino-Pack, the result was certainly fruitful, “We met with a few exhibitors, such as Ningbo Haitian, Guangdong Simcheng and a factory visit was arranged to experience their actual operation. A few of our other members also found suitable facilities at the fairground and even confirmed orders with new suppliers.”

Mr. Huang, President of the Guangxi Food & Pharmaceuticals Packaging Association said, “In addition to having three companies confirmed their purchases for printing facilities from Delux Printing Machinery Co., Ltd., we also received positive feedback from various members. Next year, we plan to recruit even more members to come and visit the show.”

The 17th Printing South China / Sino-Label 2010 was well-attended by major local printers, including Guangzhou Fungchoi, Jingjia Group, Nine Start, Toppan Printing Co., Shenzhen Yaqi Adhesive Products Co., Guangzhou Yifeng Printing, China Publishing Group, Che Fung, etc. as well as numerous overseas trade visitors, such as Gracia Print from Indonesia, Digital Star from Thailand, Topway International from the Philippines, Emboss Ltd from Mauritius, Grafin from Argentina, Phu GB Michalak from Poland, etc.

The 17th Sino-Pack / China Drinktec attracted a number of buyers from leading worldwide manufacturers as well, including Nestle, Lee Kum Kee, Europharm Laboratories Co. Ltd, Mead Johnson, Amway, Blue Ribbon Beer, Hitachi, Samsung, Bright Diary, Amoy, President, Coca-Cola, City’super, Fairwood, etc.
